Today, on the 2nd anniversary of the assassination of Mr. Muhib Ullah, a Rohingya leader, we at the Rohingya Students Network (RSN) remember him as a tireless advocate for Rohingya's rights and justice. Mr. Muhib Ullah was a beacon of hope for the Rohingya people, and his assassination was a devastating loss to our community.
Mr. Muhib Ullah was born in Rakhine State, Myanmar, in 1971. He was a Rohingya Muslim and a human rights activist. He was the chairperson of the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH), a leading Rohingya human rights organization.
Mr. Muhib Ullah was a vocal critic of the Burmese government's persecution of the Rohingya people. He spoke out against the government's policies of discrimination, violence, and displacement. He also worked tirelessly to document the human rights abuses committed against the Rohingya people.
On September 29, 2021, Mr. Muhib Ullah was assassinated by an assailants group in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, where he was living in exile with thousands of other Rohingya refugees. His assassination was widely condemned by the international community, and it sparked a renewed wave of protests against the Burmese government.
On this 2nd anniversary of Muhib Ullah's assassination, we at the RSN recommit ourselves to carrying on his legacy of fighting for Rohingya's rights and justice. We will never forget his sacrifice, and we will continue to work until the Rohingya people are able to return to their homeland and live in peace and dignity.
Mr. Muhib Ullah's indomitable spirit is encapsulated in his powerful words during his visit to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva: "Don't call us stateless, we have a state, it's Myanmar. We want to go Home to Myanmar." His vision and determination cannot be extinguished by his tragic passing.
We request our Rohingya people to come together in unity during this challenging time. It is through unity that we can honor Mr. Muhib Ullah's memory and strengthen our collective voice for justice and rights.
We implore the international community to stand with us in demanding justice for Mr. Muhib Ullah and push the relevant authorities to swiftly bring the conspirators behind Mr. Muhib Ullah's killing to justice. It is unacceptable that those responsible for this heinous act remain unpunished.
May Mr. Muhib Ullah's soul rests in peace, and may his dream of justice and return to Myanmar live on. Together, we will strive for a brighter future for the Rohingya people.
